How to Make Fudge?

Learning how to make fudge will change your life forever!! Well, maybe it is not quite life changing but it sure can be a lot of fun!

Fudge is a wonderful combination of sugar, milk, butter and other ingredients. One of the great things Fudge about making fudge is that there are so many varieties and flavors that one is sure to please your taste buds. The most common is probably chocolate fudge but you can choose from many flavors such as: peanut butter, brown sugar, white chocolate, maple, butterscotch, strawberry, pumpkin, etc.

Unlike some types of cooking, candy making requires that you follow the recipe exactly – no tossing in Chocolate Fudge whatever is available as when you are making a casserole or a salad. Making fudge that turns out perfectly requires that you follow the recipe.



Tips for making fudge:


PREPARATION

Cooking SuppliesGather all ingredients to be sure you are not missing anything (once you start cooking your fudge you cannot stop or you risk ruining the batch). Measure out the ingredients and have everything ready to add when called for in the recipe.

• Gather all equipment such as a heavy, large saucepan (a heavy pan helps to prevent scorching and a large pan helps to prevent candy from boiling over), an accurate candy thermometer, a buttered platter or pan in which to place the fudge after it is cooked.



MAKING THE FUDGE

• Follow the recipe!

• Use an accurate candy thermometer. (To test your candy thermometer, boil a pan of water and insert thermometer; check to be sure that it reads 212 degrees F or 100 degrees C.)

• Add ingredients in the order listed in the recipe

• For beginners, look for recipes that use marshmallows or marshmallow crème or corn syrup. These recipes make it easier to produce a smooth textured fudge as these ingredients help to prevent the crystallization of sugar into large grains.
